OUR FUNCTIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Achievements on Education Korak, the multiple handicapped school under "Korak Pratibandhi Kalyan Kendra" has been working for last twentythree years on Mentally challenged and Hearing Impaired children. There are also a considerable numer of spastic and autistic children. At present there are 20 children in Hearing Impaired section and 30 in Mentally Retarded section. We visit the residences of students to arrange their training at home by way of home based training methods. Many Hearing Impaired students of our school have been rehabilitated by total oral aural communication method, speech therapy, voice training, auditory training, sense training, spontaneous articulation, language exposure, psychological assessment and educational counseling for those who are suffering from speech language problem as well We start from early identification and early intervention programme (critical age period up to 5 years ). There are huge numbers of students in pre-school level. We have rehabilitated many students from Pre-School to standard IV. We use different teaching aids and make relevant technological arrangements (group hearing aid. loop induction system. speech trainer ). Through these technological arrangements teacher > student, student > student ? teacher communication and understanding is possible. For Mentally Retarded children we specially emphasize on self help training rather than academic exposure. Many of them have now become able to come to the school without escort from the remort areas. They conduct school canteen. Every day they arrange marketing, cooking, serving, selling with full confidence. Their proper communication with people and socialization have been possible. We have both integrated and segregated education system.
